BRUXISM / TEETH GRINDING<
Teeth grinding in adults is an unconscious habit. It can be harmful
for the teeth, muscles of the jaw and the jaw joint. The causes of
bruxism are not clear but it can be related to stress. Bruxism can
result in pain and sensitivity of teeth and tenderness of the jaw
joint and associated muscles. It can cause significant wear of teeth
and predispose them to cracks. We work with physiotherapists who
specialise in treating jaw pain. An occlusal splint (night guard)
may be required to prevent further wear of teeth.
