Root canal therapy is the treatment of teeth with inflammation and infection caused by caries and trauma. In these cases the root canals need to be accessed in order to remove the infection completely. The root canals are then filled and sealed to prevent further infection. This process may take more than one visit, and once completed the tooth will need to be restored. The best restoration for a root filled tooth is often a crown.
